Ever seen a dog shake after a tense moment? Or a bird flap its wings aggressively after a scare? Animals instinctively discharge stress through movement—something humans often forget to do.
When animals face stress, their bodies prepare for survival (fight, flight, or freeze). Once the danger passes, they shake, tremble, or stretch to reset their nervous system.
Dogs shake after feeling anxious or threatened.
Deer tremble and twitch after escaping danger.
Ducks & birds flap their wings furiously after a conflict.
This prevents stress from getting trapped in their bodies. But humans? We tend to hold onto stress, letting it build up as tension, anxiety, or burnout.
Use this when you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in your head.
Step 1: Find a private space.
Somewhere you feel comfortable moving freely.
Step 2: Start shaking.
Gently shake your hands, arms, shoulders, and legs.
Loosen your jaw and wiggle your head side to side.
Let yourself bounce slightly on your feet.
Step 3: Add deep breathing.
Inhale deeply through your nose.
Exhale with a loud sigh or a “haaa” sound (this is how animals release tension too!).
Step 4: Let your body lead.
If you feel like stretching, twisting, or bouncing more, do it!
The key is to let go and move instinctively.
Step 5: Pause & Notice.
Stand still for a moment.
How does your body feel now?
Do you feel lighter, more relaxed, or more present?
